Philip trained as a lawyer and joined the Halifax in September 1972, initially being recruited within the retail network. After a short period within the retail branch network he was appointed to a series of roles within business information systems all of which focused on developing and improving mortgage systems.In 1984 Philip took over the management of mortgage administration undertaken centrally and as the mortgage market in the UK became ever more competitive developed the mortgage product policy and marketing functions for Halifax. Philip was appointed to the executive as assistant general manager, mortgages, on April 1, 1996, and became head of mortgages with responsibility for product design, lending policy and risk and key mortgage related projects. As a result of the merger with the Bank of Scotland, Philip is now directly responsible for the strategy and development of the retail mortgage business. This brings together the most complete group of mortgage brands, Halifax, Bank of Scotland, Birmingham Midshires, The Mortgage Business and Intelligent Finance. back |
