Peter is deputy director general of the Council of Mortgage Lenders, a position he took up in January 1997. He has overall responsibility for the CML's policy work as well as leading on a range of housing policy and housing finance/mortgage-related issues. These include representing the industry on the current Basel II negotiations on capital adequacy and taking forward the Sustainable Home Ownership initiative with the government and the insurance industry. He is a regular contributor to journals, conferences and the media.He has had a long involvement with housing policy and practice in the U.K. and abroad. After working at the Australian National University's Urban Research Unit from 1980 to 1983, he became assistant and then deputy director at the Chartered Institute of Housing in London with responsibility for education, training and research. In 1988, he joined the University of Wales in Cardiff as the first Professor of Housing Management. He was chairman of the Welsh Secretary of State's Housing Management Advisory Panel and a board member of Housing for Wales from 1989 to 1994. From late 1995 to 2002, he was a Board Member of the Housing Corporation. From 1999 to 2001 he was a member of the DETR Housing Sounding Board, an advisory group for the Minister of Housing. He is currently a member of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister's Home Ownership Task Force. He is chair of the Roof Magazine editorial board (Shelter's Housing Magazine), on the board of Welsh Housing Quarterly and is policy review editor for Housing Studies, the international academic housing journal. back |
